Sheet metal bending is not as simple as it appears. Correct development, die selection and knowledge of material behavior are essential.
1. Development Calculation
If the correct development is not calculated before bending, the part dimensions will not match.
2. Die Selection
V-die width should be selected as 6–8 times the material thickness.
3. Bending Sequence
The bending sequence should be planned according to the part geometry.
4. Material Direction
The risk of cracking decreases when the rolling direction is perpendicular to the bending line.
5. Springback
Springback must be compensated especially in stainless steel and aluminum.
6. Surface Protection
Protective film should be used on painted or foil-coated sheets.
7. Quality Control
First part measurement must always be performed.
